HIRLAM-ALADIN working meeting on

Integrated Meteorology-Aerosol-Chemistry Modelling

26-27 September 2013

Meteo-France, Toulouse, France

Address: Météo-France (meeting room of CNRM),

42 avenue G. Coriolis, 31057 Toulouse

The main aim of the meeting is to discuss plans for the introduction of aerosol dynamics and elements of atmospheric chemistry into the framework of the common NWP system shared by HIRLAM and ALADIN partners, with the long-term aim of building integrated Meteorology-Aerosol-Chemistry versions of AROME/HARMONIE for different applications: air quality modelling, climate research and NWP. In HIRLAM, DMI has experience on online integrated modelling with its Enviro-HIRLAM system, and similar approaches are developed in the AROME-C, CTM MOCAGE and MesoNH framework by Meteo-France and partners. Discussions will include the experiences, long-term perspectives and step-by-step introduction of the most important developments into the common framework, and to coordinate the HARMONIE work with the MesoNH-ALADIN community. It will also be discussed how to contribute to the improved handling of aerosol indirect and direct effects in the radiation and microphysics parametrisations within the operational NWP and climate modelling. This meeting is initial and mostly strategic, so it is important to elaborate the joint strategy together. There we can form a joint coordination team and specific groups for further work and contacts in specific topics, e.g. by applications for NWP, Climate and AQ communities; or by processes: integrated system based on HARMONIE, aerosol and chemistry online, aerosol-cloud interaction schemes, aerosol-radiation schemes, etc.
